Relods: A Unique Display Font for Creative Branding

I was staring at a blank brand board one morning, the kind of moment that makes you question every design decision you’ve ever made. My client had just launched a new line of artisanal skincare products and needed a visual identity that felt warm, approachable, and authentic. That’s when I stumbled upon Relods — a font that looked like it was handcrafted with a brush pen and pencil, giving it a unique charm that immediately caught my eye.

Relods isn’t your typical display font. It has a soft, organic feel that suggests craftsmanship and care. The pairing of a brush pen and pencil in its design gives it an endearing authenticity, making it perfect for brands that want to communicate a sense of personal touch and handmade quality. Its curves are gentle, its lines have character, and it feels like something you might find on a handwritten note or a vintage label.

First Impressions and Logo Drafts

I started by testing Relods on a few logo drafts. The first mockup was for the main product line — a collection of natural face serums. When I applied Relods to the wordmark, the result was surprisingly elegant. It didn’t feel too playful, nor did it come off as overly formal. It struck the right balance between creativity and professionalism, which is exactly what the brand needed.

The font worked well as a headline element but also carried enough weight to be used as a primary typeface in smaller applications, like product labels or packaging tags. I noticed that it read smoothly even in shorter forms, which is crucial for logos and brand names that need to be instantly recognizable.

Branding Across Different Surfaces

As I moved into the broader brand identity, I tested Relods across different surfaces. On a shop sign, it looked inviting and approachable. On a business card, it added a subtle layer of personality without overwhelming the design. And on a label sticker, it felt like a natural extension of the product itself — almost like it had been written by hand.

For digital assets, I used Relods in the hero section of the website homepage. Paired with a clean sans serif font for body text, it created a nice contrast that guided the viewer’s eye from the headline down to the supporting content. This combination helped maintain readability while keeping the overall aesthetic cohesive and visually engaging.

On social media graphics, Relods brought a friendly and artistic vibe to Instagram posts and promotional flyers. It didn’t feel out of place next to photographs of the products, and it actually enhanced the storytelling aspect of the visuals.

Design Considerations and Practical Advice

Before committing to Relods for the full brand system, I took some time to test it in various contexts. One thing I noticed was how well it paired with other fonts. For instance, combining it with a modern sans serif font gave the brand a fresh yet grounded look. Meanwhile, using it alongside a script font added more warmth and character, especially in editorial design elements like blog headers or magazine spreads.

I also checked the available styles and alternates. While Relods is primarily a display font, having access to ligatures and alternate characters allowed me to add subtle variations that made the typography feel more dynamic and expressive. This flexibility was particularly useful for creating custom illustrations or accentuating key phrases in marketing materials.

Another important consideration was ensuring that the font supported all necessary languages and characters. Since the brand plans to expand into international markets, this feature was essential. The file formats were also suitable for both print and digital use, which made it easier to integrate into different design workflows.

Font Pairing and Commercial Use

When it comes to font pairing, I found that Relods worked best with fonts that had a contrasting texture or weight. A serif font, for example, provided a classic and professional counterbalance, while a minimalist sans serif kept things modern and clean. In terms of commercial use, the licensing options were clear and appropriate for the scale of the project, whether it was for print materials, web design, or merchandise.

For clients looking to build their own brand identity, I’d recommend starting with a small test application before going full-scale. This allows you to see how the font behaves in different sizes, colors, and backgrounds. It also helps ensure that it aligns with the overall brand voice and message.

Relods is not just a font — it's a design choice that can shape the way a brand is perceived. Whether it's used in logo design, packaging, or digital templates, its unique blend of elegance and authenticity makes it a versatile tool for any creative project. If you're working on a brand that values handcrafted charm and emotional connection, Relods might just be the perfect fit.
